Use Placeho in your AI coding tool

Let Claude, Cursor or any AI coding tool add placeholder images and safe zones for you while you build.

      Connect the MCP server

For Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop and other tools that support MCP. Your AI gets three tools: placeholder image, safe zone and list formats.

      Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http placeho https://placeho.com/mcp
      Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json)
      {"mcpServers": {"placeho": {"url": "https://placeho.com/mcp"}}}
      Any other MCP tool
      https://placeho.com/mcp

      Add the skill

A short guide your AI reads on its own whenever a design needs images, so it uses the right sizes and keeps text in the safe zone.

      Download skill
      • Claude Code: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/ for all projects, or .claude/skills/ for one.
      • Cursor: unzip into .cursor/skills/ in your project.
      • Claude app: upload the zip as a custom skill in Settings.

      Or read it first: SKILL.md

      Paste into any AI

For Lovable, Bolt, v0, ChatGPT or any tool with project rules or custom instructions.

      Questions

      Is Placeho free?

Yes. Placeho is free and needs no account. Image links are made on request and the tool makes downloads in your browser, so nothing you type is stored.

How do I use a placeholder image?

Put a link like https://placeho.com/600x400 anywhere an image goes, such as an img tag, Markdown, Figma or a CMS. Add colours with https://placeho.com/600x400/000000/FFFFFF and text with ?text=Hello.

Can AI assistants and coding agents use it?

Yes. Connect the Placeho MCP server at /mcp, or add the Placeho skill, and tools like Claude Code and Cursor will add placeholder images and safe zones for you. Image links are plain URLs, so any AI can also write them straight into HTML or Markdown.

Can I check my own design against the safe zones?

Yes. Drop, paste or choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP and Placeho draws the safe zones over it for any format. Your image stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

      What is a safe zone?

A safe zone is the part of an image that stays visible on every screen or platform you design for. Outside it, content can be cropped away or covered by app buttons and captions.

What is the Instagram Reels safe zone?

On a 1080 × 1920 Reel, keep key content about 14% from the top, 35% from the bottom and 6% from each side, and clear of the button rail on the right. That leaves roughly 950 × 883 pixels.

What is the TikTok safe zone?

On a 1080 × 1920 video, keep about 240 px clear at the top, 660 px at the bottom and 120 px on each side, plus the button column on the right. That leaves roughly 780 × 1020 pixels.

What is the YouTube Shorts safe zone?

On a 1080 × 1920 Short, keep about 288 px clear at the top, 672 px at the bottom, 48 px on the left and 192 px on the right. That leaves roughly 840 × 960 pixels.

Can one video work on Reels, TikTok and Shorts?

Yes. Keep text, faces and logos inside the combined safe zone of roughly 733 × 960 pixels. The link https://placeho.com/vertical-video shows it.

How do responsive safe zones work?

Add the aspect ratios your layout crops the image to, for example https://placeho.com/1920x1080?crops=16:9,4:3,4:5. Everything cut on at least one crop is shaded, and the white box shows what every crop keeps.
